Memories Of The Year 2008From The Humpherys Family
February 1,2009
Nevada City, California
Thank you MaryLynn for volunteering to keep the Humpherys Family News tradition going strong.
C.J. and Laurie, Mercy, Porter and Jameson, all joined Camille, Trevor, Damien, and Sally and I in Idaho for the big family reunion, as well as our 4th annual reunion for our immediate family. We had a fun time just being together and staying at a cabin next to the resort in Idaho. It was fun swimming, and eating all the good food, and seeing all the family.
Camille graduated from BYU with a degree in Fitness and Wellness in April. She now works as a personal trainer, and was recently hired to work at Sundance Ski Resort, and she also sings at Macaroni Grill on Friday’s and Saturday’s to make extra money.C.J was able to fly from Arizona to be at her graduation. C.J. took us out to a remote location in the hills near Lehi, Utah and let us all target practice using his gun, he brought with him. He was able to bring his gun with him on the plane, because he is a Federal Agent
C.J. still works for the Border Patrol in Naco, Arizona. Even though he was hired to work for the FBI, he has made the decision for now, at least, to continue working for the Border Patrol. He has been promoted in his work and enjoys his job.Trevor is in the 6th Grade at Union Hill School, and Damien is in the 4th Grade, also at Union Hill School. They both played Soccer this past season, and Damien was on the swim team. Trevor played on the Metro Soccer team and Damien played youth league soccer. Now they are both playing basketball again in the Grass Valley League. Newell is Damien’s basketball coach, and Jason Spillner is Trevor’s basketball coach. They both love basketball. They both received medals from cross country team competition They both love to run and are good runners. Trevor was chosen to play as a pitcher for his all star baseball team.
Damien still plays the guitar, and Trevor and Damien are both taking Violin lessons. Trevor and Sally both had a Solo in the Christmas Oratorio for Music In The Mountains, which is a local community audition only chorus. They both did a wonderful job, in three concerts, in front of packed houses. We were proud of Trevor, because it took a lot of courage, because he was the only boy soloist they had ever had in twenty years.
Camille, Trevor, Damien, and Sally ran —(Newell walked)__ in the 5K run at the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot race, in which nearly 2000 people competed. It was good exercise.
Newell still enjoys being the Public Address Announcer for the Nevada Union Boys Varsity Basketball games. He is teaching early morning Seminary again this year. This is his 12th or 13th year teaching Seminary. This year, the subject is the New Testament.
Sally still teaches part time for the High School District. She also takes Trevor and Damien snowboarding, running, and hiking as often as possible. Sally enjoys her calling as Ward Choir Director. Sally has a new calling working with the young women to help them with their personal progress. Sally still ski’s occasionally when she takes Damien and Trevor. Also, Sally still runs 3-4 times per week about 5 miles per session.
This past summer we spent most of our time adding on to our house. We only went wakeboarding three or four times. We also went hiking, jeeping, swimming and picnicking and played tennisIn October for school break, Sally, Newell, Trevor and Damien and Camille went to Monterey and enjoyed a few days together on the beach. It was a lot of fun riding our bikes along the ocean every day.
We are grateful each passing year for the blessings and tender mercies from God in our lives. We are very thankful for each one of you, our extended family, even though we don’t see you very often. We are so thankful that we at least have opportunities to have family reunions to keep in touch with each other, and also to have an annual family newsletter!
We are looking forward to another great reunion this summer in beautiful Afton, Wyoming with Sharon and Bob in charge. It is hard to keep track of all the new nieces and nephews, and the new cousins!! I’m sure Grandpa Dean and Grandma Neva are very proud of how the Humpherys family continues to grow!!
