22 YEARS OF THE HUMPHERYS
HERALD FAMILY NEWS...

Nadean 2009

DEAR Fantastic, Amazing, Neverfail, Family,

Okay, don’t think I’ve gone whacko just getting older (and I am getting older 73 to be exact ) the more I realize the blessings I have been blessed with. I am very grateful for my membership in this family We have parents that used all the talents and virtues they had been blessed with to raise a great family. I am sure they look down and are so proud of the way we have stayed closely connected by writing newsletters and having our reunions. I know they are so pleased that we are carrying on the legacy they left us.
I am grateful to Newell for ramroding someone each year, to do this newsletter. Thanks, Shane and Nicolle for this year’s work. Sometimes we don’t like to do it but it accomplishes two things, it preserves a history and it keeps us close. Also grateful to Marilynn for doing such a novel newsletter last year. What a clever change. More thanks to Becky and Ray for typing up Dad’s army diary. It will become more precious as time go by. Years ago, I saw that diary in that little closet by the outside door and asked mother if I could take it and keep it in my care. She said, “Yes, and type it up and pass it around to the others.” Well, Becky found it up in my cupboard and offered to do what I have put off for many moons. Thanks again, Becky. for those the pictures of the Ray Humpherys siblings. They got them from Florence at the Ray Humpherys reunion. We had a very good time. Verl Humpherys will be in charge next time in 2011.

No trips for me this year, money went for; putting in a new fence, new kitchen flooring, and blinds. My faithful dishwasher, washer, dryer and car all went on the blink at the same time. Needless to say, it will be sometime before any more travel is on my agenda.

Where the idea (favorite pastimes) came from I don’t know, but I suspect I started with the question, I wonder who is your favorite Jazz player? Then realizing the whole family were not Jazz fans it changed to favorite pastime. It has been fun talking to all of you. I just asked ages 10 and over. So here it is…..After listing the favorite pastime…….the next column answers the what, why, where and when questions. Remember some answered for the present and some went to the past. ENJOY

Jim & Stacy 2009

Dear Family,
Another year, another Newsletter!!! I know we say it every year…but WOW! Time does fly! I wish we had some fun and exciting news to share, but no…just the same old, same old at the Cassell House. Which is probably a good thing!
Although, it did seem to be the year for injuries! Jim dislocated his left pinky in a freak accident while watching Logan fish up in Island Park last August, (get him to tell you the story, it’s very entertaining…you know Jim!), anyway he ended up having to have surgery on it because it didn’t heal correctly. Then Katie tore her ACL in drill practice right before school started, so she had surgery and has been rehabbing it all these months! Hopefully she’ll be ready for drill this spring. Then it was Logan’s turn…he broke a bone in his hand while playing basketball! He jammed his middle finger so hard it broke a connecting bone! He didn’t have to have surgery, but wore a cast for awhile. Stacy and Rilee are keeping their fingers crossed that the injuries stop with those three.
As mentioned previously, we went to Island Park in August. It was an AWESOME trip, despite Jim’s accident. There was great fishing, incredible 4 wheeling, some horseback riding, a float down Henry’s Fork, some exciting jet skiing, and terrific boating and wake boarding! We don’t usually do the boat stuff up there, but we thought we’d give it a try this time and had a blast. It’s beautiful country and we enjoy going up there and spending time as a family and this year we had Nadean, Carol and Blair and Stacy’s parents join us! We all had a great time together!
Some other highlight’s of our year were… almost moving and then NOT! (Long story…again get Jim to tell you!), Jim’s office building being completed and his company moving in! (It is beautiful! We love it!), and Grandpa Bill coming to visit in September! We all love it when he comes. He keeps us laughing and entertains us with his singing!
The kids keep getting older… Logan will graduate in May! Mom can hardly believe it! And then in the winter he will be going on a mission!!! What??? As crazy as that is, it is an exciting time and we are looking forward to Logan’s new adventures that await him! Katie is a junior this year, so she has one more year after this. Yeah! This has been a very fun year for her, with her friends, dating (Dad has not been fond of that one!), and gaining a little freedom with driving! Rilee is in 6th grade and will go to the big scary middle school next year, (she is excited but both mom and dad can hardly take it!) she has a lot of friends who she thinks she needs to be with 24/7 and is also still very involved with her dance company and competitions! She just participated in the mini drill camp at Alta High and got to perform at half-time at the basketball game!
Jim has stayed busy with his company. He has to do a little traveling and works very long hours but his work is paying off with growth in the company and they are doing fairly well in this tough economy. He doesn’t get much free time to do a lot of fishing but vows he is gonna make time this spring and summer! Stacy stays busy keeping up with the kid’s schedules. She is having a hard time believing they are all getting so old! That must mean she is old too! All in all, we are well and feel very blessed! Family is so important and isn’t something to take for granted.
We are looking forward to the BIG reunion this year up Grey’s River! We promise to work hard and make it great! Can’t wait to see you all and hope you all will be there!
Love, Jim, Stacy, Logan, Katie and Rilee

WHAT WE HAVE BEEN UP TO
Family Reunion: We had a wonderful Family Reunion in Wyoming. It was so much fun to be with our extended family and catch up on all their news.
Thanks Uncle Bob and Aunt Sharon for renting such a beautiful place it was really hard to go home we wanted to stay forever. Wonder if that’s what Heaven will be like?
Island Park: In July we went to Island Park with Grandma and the Cassell family. Jim rented this wonderful house and we spent every waking hour, water skiing, jet skiing, and riding around the lake in a boat. We also went to a Rodeo for a little change of pace and it was a blast. We had an absolutely marvelous time up there. Even though Blair got lost and it took an extra 4 hours (almost to Montana) to get there it didn’t spoil the trip. Maybe we need to buy him a GPS for Christmas this year?

School: Jase started school at Salt Lake Community College in September and is working on his general’s. He loves his dance and computers class and will be studying math in the summer. He’s doing good.
Halloween: We love Halloween at our house and Mom always decorates the house so cute. Handing out Candy to all those cute little kids brings back fond memories of when Jase and Josh were little and going door to door.
Yellowstone: Jase and Grandma had a terrific trip to Yellowstone in September. While they really didn’t get to see too many animals they did have a great time together. Trips with Grandma are always extra special and having the time to share what ever came to mind was priceless. Thanks again Grandma for an extra special trip.
Thanksgiving: Brought another wonderful feast at the Lancaster home with lots of family and scrumptious food. Mom always goes all out and the meal is to die for! There is no place like home with good food and family to create wonderful memories. It makes me hungry thinking about it!
Josh Moves Home: Having Josh move back in with us has been so fun. He brought his dog JoJo and we have all come to love her. Even Bayle has decided it’s nice to have them both around. Josh just got a wonderful new job with a law firm and will be able to finish school a little faster now that he is making more money. Way to go Josh!!!
Christmas Eve: The Lancaster’s and Grandma spent Christmas Eve at the Cassell’s and we had so much fun. We exchanged presents, had wonderful food and made lots more family memories. Family time is the best time of all!
Uncle Gerald & Carter: It was so fun to have them come to visit us this year. We had a wonderful time catching up and enjoying each others company.
“Athletic Edge” Blair and his partner moved their store this year but it’s in the same building. They have been so blessed to still be doing well even though the economy has not been that great. Great products always sell!!!
Carol: Is still working at Intermountain Medical Center in the Heart and Lung building. She enjoys her job and meeting new people each day. Plus the patients have come to know that she knows what she’s doing and they can count on her. It’s hard to go to work so early but so fun to get off early.

Dear Family,
Boy the time flys by, Not only for these letters but the weeks
and months go by so fast.
Been thinking what to write this year, was thinking when we were little and living in the old house how cold it was in the winter, but only in the bedroom, we had a big pot belly wood stove that we kept warm by. that was in the front room.

The cook stove was in the kitchen of course, and the smell of bread bakeing in the oven was a smell you just don't forget.

Nadean, Kenny, Florence and me all got our saturday night baths in the great big galvanized tub that Mother put in the middle of the kitchen floor.

When we were young we all had lots of chores to do , like feeding calfs pigs chickens cows horses.
In the winter when we milked the cows we would play tag just to keep warm.

I really miss all this, and when I drive by the house in Etna all these good old memories come back.

Enough for now,,, Love to all....... Sharon

Now its Bobs turn.
Hi everyone,
Was a good year for us. we were in charge of the reunion last year we had it at Canyon view Park.

It was great to see everyone and a good time had by all.
Since retirement I have been trying to find things to do.
Sharon has been trying to get me to cook, but I'd sooner Fish and put food on the table that way
I do enjoy yard work . If I do it really good I get to go fishing
I go anyway who am I kidding

In Early October we took a trip to see Kim Mandy and Chriss.
Randy and Chriss took me Pheasant hunting, really enjoy that.
Our Christmas was good we had Robert and Amy with us this year.... My Best to All
Bob

Kim 2009

Dearest Family,
I’m late! I’m usually early about getting my news letter in, but not this year. Perhaps it’s because I’m just not that excited about this past year. So do we just share the good stuff in these updates or do we share the crap too? Well, I guess if we’re all honest, life has its ups and downs, and we don’t appreciate the Mountain tops if we’re never in the valley. So with that great piece of wisdom… I’ll share with you that I got a divorce in 2009. Not a whole lot to more to share regarding that whole 5 years mistake.
Work has been fine. Still selling TV advertising. Business was down in 09 with the recession, but I am very thankful I have a job so I continue to plug along. We are in the middle of the Olympics. The station I work for is the NBC affiliate so February has been amazing. I just booked the largest month ever by a single salesperson. Had to throw that in after the last bomb I dropped.
This winter has been worse than most. We’ve had record amounts of snow and the commuting has been hard. But spring is coming….and I love spring and working in my garden and riding my horses. I’m planning on breeding my mare this spring. She’s pretty well bred herself so I’d like to get a fancy colt out of her. Hmmm…anyone bored to tears yet???
Mom and Bob came out to see us this fall. Bob went pheasant hunting with the guys, and Mom, Mandy and I went to a Women of Faith conference in Minneapolis. We had an amazing time…just not long enough. I am so thankful that they sold the store so that they can get away more often.
I’m dating a guy that I dated years ago. He likes horses, has a ranch in North Dakota and raises registered Hereford cattle. It certainly helps to have a lot in common so things are going well.
Mandy and Chris always have so much going on. I rarely go into Plankinton without someone stopping me to make a comment on how great the place looks. It’s so beautiful inside and out and I am very proud of them both. This summer they put up a front deck and entrance to their home. We roofed their house and mine. We painted both places and Chris continues to clean up around the outside. It’s simply beautiful.
I am hoping to come to the family reunion. I’m thinking about hauling some horses out and making one of the uncles take me to the mountain lake that everyone brags about. I’ve always wanted to bring some horses to big beautiful Wyoming and do some serious riding. Maybe this is the year I’ll be crazy enough to try it.
So that’s the news from Dean and Neva’s oldest granddaughter. This family is getting so big; I thought I should remind some of you young ones of my one claim to fame.
One thing I have learned this year. God does have a plan for each of us. We may do things to derail his plan from time to time, but he is faithful. I have had very strong reassurances of that many times in the last year. We can beat ourselves to death, or we can move on. His mercies are new each day. How I thank him for that.
Wishing you all great things in 2010 and hoping it will work to see many of you this summer.
With Love!

Dear Family,
Well, another year has passed us by very quickly again. Looking
forward to spring and being outside playing with the dogs, gardening
or “Fishing” and on and on…etc.
Hopefully, we’ll be at the reunion this year. Not too much
happening in the Brayton household.
If you count a couple of challenging dogs and Ray and work, and
cleaning and shopping.
Let’s see—I guess that’s life. Oh, well. Hopefully, Ray and I and
the dogs can do more fishing this year. Ray was able to go a couple of
times but I wasn’t able to go at the same time. I was able to go with
Mom, Bob and Ray before the family reunion on Palisades and I’m
pretty sure I caught all the fish that day…mmmmmm—
Well, I’m really late getting this in...sorry so boring..
Ray says Hi!
God Bless.

It is family newsletter time again! I hope this letter finds you happy and healthy for the 2010 year! May God bless each and every one of you!
This past year has come and gone faster than I ever knew it could. One of the biggest highlights of my year was taking the longest road trip of my life with my Mom and Dad. We got our Envoy all ready to roll and headed out toward Montana to visit Auntie Pam and Uncle Ray for a few days before heading down to see my great grandparents, Grandma Sharon and Grandpa Bob. The first day of our journey we left our house at 7:00 AM heading west. My little bed was all set up and ready for me in the back seat complete with the DVD player and my own climate control. The trip was great but soon the rain started to fall. I quickly realized that I was scared out of my mind of the windshield wipers! YIKES, who knew they could be so scary! My heart started pounding, and I couldn’t catch my breath! I was so scared I thought this was the end! For some strange reason, I’m still not for sure why, Dad ended up driving the rest of the way in the front seat by himself! Mom entertained me in the backseat for the rest of the 13 hour trip, praying for no more rain! We had a really fun time in Montana with Auntie Pam and Ray! I also really enjoyed meeting all of my family members in Wyoming at the family reunion in Afton. Mom and Dad really wish they could see everyone more often, but enjoy every family reunion they can attend!
Other than our eventful family trip, the rest of the year was spent hanging out with my Mom and Dad and enjoying every minute I get to lay on Mom’s lap and sleep. I really like to snuggle with Dad too when he’s not working on a project. This summer Mom and Dad did a lot of work to our house including a new roof, adding a porch, new gutters, and dirt work around the yard. Dad has been busy working on his shed too, trying to get it ready so we can work on projects this winter while Mom is doing school work.
Mom is staying busy teaching her little kids and loves to spend Saturday mornings sleeping in late with me. She does a great job teaching her little Kindergarteners and keeps learning fun and interesting for them. This summer she bottle fed 3 sheep and 5 baby calves so she could stay at home and spend more time with me. Of course, once school started, it quickly became Dad’s chore to keep the animals fed and growing.
Dad keeps really busy with work and is still designing specialty trailers at Trail King Industries. He recently got promoted to work on new product development with the chief engineer and he has really enjoyed it. It keeps his mind thinking creatively and he is always coming up with new ideas.
Other than that I still enjoy sleeping all day and playing at night when my Mom and Dad get home. I look forward to hearing what all of you have been up to this past year and hope that if you are ever in the area you will stop in and see me do some tricks, and then of course give me a treat!
Love, Punky (The Spoiled Dog)
And Chris and Mandy Williams (Mom and Dad)

I guess it’s that time again... This past year has been a rough one in some ways– mainly work. It’s been hard keeping a job. But like it’s been said that Thomas Edison didn’t fail 2000 times he just learned 2000 ways how not to make a light bulb. So... Brooke, who should probably be writing her own portion of this, works for the City of Henderson for Parks and Rec. She went to Idaho for a month to work for Mary Lynn & Gary watching the little ones during harvest. She made enough money to buy her very own vehicle. Even though it may not be the most ideal one on the planet (something about it keeps overheating) it will always have a special place in her heart. Trust me. Brooke has really found an interest in acting and music. She’s been learning to play the guitar. So I think now she can play the French Horn, Piano, and guitar. She has a lot of talent and is certainly a beautiful woman. Can’t believe she’s going to be 20 soon. She really enjoys snow- boarding too. Brooke’s active in her ward having many activities at the Singles Ward. She loves Disney Land too and has been there quite a few times. Tanner has turned 16 and been finding out what dating is like. He has a few years yet, but gets very excited about going on his mission. He sees a lot of older friends and family going and they are good examples to him. Tanner, as well as many of his friends, have worked hard to receive his Eagle Scout award. He just needs to finalize some paper work and have his Eagle board of review, but has passed off all the requirements. Volley Ball has become his favorite sport. He’s attended the BYU volleyball camp for the past two years and hopes to get a scholarship there for volleyball after he graduates (he’s a junior this year). Basketball will be wrapping up soon for him. It’s been a challenging B-Ball season this year. Tanner does very well in school and Seminary. We’re proud of him for that. He is trying to get a job as a life-guard. He got certified last summer and would like a job. We’d like him to have a job too. Ha ha. Minh has been living here still. She’s trying to get her degree and works very hard and is very dedicated to her goal. She bought her a vehicle too and hopefully will have her drivers license soon. Sandra is STILL working as a Dental Assistant. Yes, it’ll be 24 years this month (Feb) who’d a thunk. But I guess some habits are hard to break. She’s always been the rock in our family. She’s been called as the R.S. secretary and I think she’ll enjoy working with the other sisters in the ward. It’s been a rough year as I stated at the first. We’ve been working feverishly for over a year trying to re- modify our home loan. We hope that we don’t loose it, but as of right now I am feeling more positive than in the recent past. We’ll see... The only traveling that we’ve really been able to do as a family was go to Idaho for Thanksgiving. It was a good trip. We have some really great friends, and family. It’s certainly a blessing in many ways. I still enjoy riding the quad in the desert and exploring. We enjoy visiting with and going out to dinner w/ our friends. Although that has been less and less with little or no work. I’ve been working with the 14-15 year old young men for the past few years. I really love my calling. It’s all fun to see these youth grow up. Regardless of these times we live in, I really do feel grateful, and somewhat optimistic for me and mine. I’m really looking forward to the reunion this year and want to thank Jim and all in advance for Old Mine in Arizona On the trail repair shop making the effort. I hope you all know how much you mean to us. We love you all a great deal and I’m so thankful for my heritage, for the influence that you’ve had in my life. Most of all I’m grateful for the gospel. Thanks Nicole for putting together this news letter. Until July news-letter fans....
Love, Kelly, Sandra, Brooke and Tanner (and Minh too)

Dear Dean G. Humpherys Family,

Man alive I am so late with this, so I am going to get something sent in even if it's short and sweet. Things are good with us. Me, Erik and Amy are all sound minded and healthy. Not much has changed except me and Erik are grandparents. OK SO THAT'S BIG, SORRY!

We still have a zoo, that'll never change I'm sure. Erik's still working as an assistant to the dairy nutritionists in this area. I am a Developmental Tech now. I still work in the schools with the kids as I've done for about 10 years now, only for a different company. Amy is a freshman in high school this year and getting good grades. She just got her learners permit to drive and I got lots of new gray hairs because of it.

Here are some random opinionated facts or some random factual opinions:

Having a child get their driving permit makes you older than being a grandparent, LET ME TELL YOU!
Having grown children makes you old too.
Being a grandma makes you youthful I say.
Having someone pull out in front of you while going 50 mph hurts your knees.
Erik taking their "95 Camero from them to replace your totaled car, because they failed to have insurance hurts their pride.
Having a kitten climb up your bare leg hurts your skin.
Watching it sail through the air onto the couch makes you glad it didn't hit the wall.
Saying your prayers at night is a good thing.
Falling asleep in the middle of them, is not.
Having my agency is the way it should be.
Your kids having their own agency makes your head want to explode.
Carbohydrates are evil.
Carbohydrates are heavenly.
Having a herd of mouse-like-looking dogs is good for your heart. (I'll explain. Having a pet you love is suppose to help you live longer)
Having your home teachers knock loudly on the window, scaring the hell out of you and your dogs is not good for your heart and counter-acts that theory!
Teaching your kids to know how to work can be pricey.
Seeing that what you taught them, actually stuck, is priceless.
Having a tooth that needs a lot of work done on it with the nerve exposed is painful.
Having to get it pulled instead, just plain bites and makes you toothless!
Living on a beach somewhere, in the sunshine, on a beautiful island with peace and quiet is a dream.
Looking in the mirror in the mornings usually is a nightmare.
It's true what they say about age 40 being over the hill and everything going south.
And lastly,
Writing these newsletters can sometimes be overwhelming.
Reading these newsletters can always be very rewarding.

Well dear family, thanks for enduring my attempt to be funny and creative with our lives. I probably could've went on and on and made this long and dull since there are so many random factual opinions about our lives. Just remember that there is no such thing as big foot and I'm not scared of him any more and that living in Star Valley, in the '70's at the base of those mountains will do that to a kid. And also that it was always a TIE in the contest between Uncle Johnny and Uncle Newel's scary faces they pulled. There was never any WINNERS in that game.

Love you all, Love Sherrie, Erik and Amy Olsen

Angie 2009

My family is small… consisting of two dogs, Jose our Chihuahua and Koda our Siberian husky (which are best friends), my boyfriend Kristopher and me, Angie. We just purchased the most beautiful home in the world in Gooding Idaho; the county capital. We have remolded the kitchen and planted some flowers out side. Our neighborhood is great and the town is growing on us. I am currently enrolled at CSI fulltime working on my Bachelors degree in Special Education. I just love my job so much I decided to make it a career. Kris works with his dad in the dairy construction business and in very talented when it comes to working with his hands. We have a great home and a busy life. We consider ourselves very blessed.

Kimmie & Carlos 2009

Where to start? Well I got married in May of 2008, to Carlos Martinez. We met through his aunt who I worked with at subway in Wendell. He lived in Kuna, which is around Boise, and he came to live with his aunt and uncle for a while. We were married about three months when I found out I was pregnant with a little boy who we named Dustin. He was born May 6, 2009. He weighed 7 lbs 14 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. He is so funny. We just recently moved to Kuna and got a cute little house to rent. I just recently got a job at a Day Care which I love, I take Dustin with me for a few hours a day so he can play with the other kids. Its funny to watch them play. Carlos has a good job at a beef packing plant sanitizing at night. He does not love it but it has good benefits and stuff so it'll have to do for now. There is not to much going on just living life and trying to do it well. Love the Martinez family, Carlos, Kimmie, and Dustin

DeAna 2009

Hello family,

Savannah is in first grade. She is smart and well liked. She is my best helper. She and her little sister have a special sister bond. She and Ian play together like good friends, for the most part. She still plays violin is very athletic and according to Uncle Newell is the smartest (great) grandkid.

Ian is my all boy 4 year old boy. He is so ready for school. He loves to ride his bike, throw frisbee, play, play, play, play, play. He has grown a foot this last month alone I swear. He loves his baby sister, (a little too much for her taste). He can't wait for Savannah to get home from school to play with her. Ian is my favorite boy.

Abby is at that lovely, hilarious and frustrating age where she is asserting her independence. She loves bath time and must be the cleanest baby around. She might grow gills. She is loved and adored by her whole family. As the baby, she is already knowing how to get her way.

I just got accepted to BYU-I and will be returning to college to further my education so that I can provide for little family as a single mom. I feel I have been blessed by our Heavenly Father in ways beyond measure. He knows our needs even before we do and has been preparing my paths. I love my family dearly and am grateful for your love and support.

Mary Lynn & Gary 2009

First of all, I encourage those who may want to keep up with me and my life to follow my blog (http://www.heavensevans.blogspot.com) or to follow me on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/heavensevans). I know that not all of you are fans of the computer or have access to it, but that really is the easiest way to stay in touch with me.

We’ll start with Gary. He had another great year farming. We rented more ground this last year and did well. I truly enjoy watching Gary plant, cultivate, fertilize, spray, water, and harvest the crops. He’s a very hard worker and provides well for us and I love him for that. We just celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary this month (February) and can’t believe how time flies. He hasn’t been snowmobiling as much this year since the snow has absolutely …. well, not been a lot of it or been great. It’s really a pain to have to drive so far to find good snow also. We have been together once this year with his brother and sister-in-law. That was fun. We also were able to go to a cabin with his family and had a great time. I actually got off the trail and his brother’s wife and I had to go through all kinds of trees to try and find the guys. It was pretty funny to see them cause they didn’t think we would follow them. It was a lot of fun and I wish I could do that more.

As far as me, I am still teaching piano lessons and taking care of the kids. I do love winter because Gary helps me out so much. Summer time we don’t see him much because our ground that we rent is all over timbuck-too (I know that’s not spelled right) and so he’s often gone at 6 or 7 in the morning and home at 9 or 10 at night. With 4 kids it is a pain to go ride in the tractor with him so we usually just stay home unless I can pawn the kids off somewhere. Haha They are getting older now though so it may be easier this coming year. As most of you know, I had a hole in my heart like Kelly did and so I had surgery in August to have it closed. It was a really easy out-patient surgery. I was to the hospital at 5:30 a.m., brought to the OR at 7:30 a.m. was awake and to my room at 8:30 a.m and sent home at 2:30 p.m. I couldn’t lift anything for a week due to the insertion into my leg. They say that can bruise and rupture if not taken care of. It was hard not able to lift Landon and hold him but he was walking by then and I had so many great family and friends that helped me out. I’m feeling great. I haven’t had any more migraines (which they are finding that those with holes in their hearts get migraines and vision spots). So life is good.

Emalee just turned 9 in December and is in the 3rd grade. She is growing up and helps me out a ton. She loves school. She loves being with her friends too. She is very social. Way different than I was in school. I’m very proud of her but don’t think I want these next few years to come too soon. I’m a huge wimp and don’t want my kids to grow up. I really enjoy the stages they all are in right now. I’ve been teaching her piano and she does very well. She even likes to practice, but just forgets to sometimes.

Jake just turned 7 a few days ago and is in 1st grade. We got him a motorcycle. (well, technically it’s for all of them) He hasn’t rode it yet because of the snow on the ground … but he is SO excited!! His hip is doing very well. The Doctor said it is growing back and has more growth than when we brought him in the first time a year and a half ago. Gary’s Uncle just had hip surgery and it made me start wondering if it was related. Jake’s Dr. said Perthe’s can be genetic. So we asked Gary’s Uncle if he remembers having problems as a kid and he couldn’t remember but he said there was some stories of one of Gary’s Great-Great Grandpa’s. We had his history (Gary’s Grandma gave each of her grandkids one) and started to read about him. It said that when he lived in England the missionaries came to his home when he was about 6. He said that he had what the Dr’s then called a bad limb that he had as an infant. He said, basically what it was, was his leg was shorter than the other. That’s what has happened to Jake’s and Jake’s Dr says he will never get full regrowth for them to be the same length. (But Jake’s is only like a ¼ in. different). Anyway, back to the story, he said the missionaries blessed him and he didn’t have any more pain or problems with his leg. It has been such a testimony to me because I just kept wondering where Jake had gotten it from and it was so unusual. It was also a blessing to me because Jake got a blessing when we found out was was making him limp (which he hardly does anymore) and his Great-Great-Great Grandpa got a blessing for the same disease which is what converted him to the Church. And because of that, Gary was able to give Jake a blessing. Anyway, that was a long story, but some great news I was pretty excited about. Jake also played T-ball last summer and will play his last Jazz game this Saturday. He even played Hayden’s team last Saturday. He really had fun with that and was so much fun to watch. I love this age where the kids are just having the best time and they win every game!

Megan will be 5 in March and is in Preschool. She can already read simple words which I’m sure has a lot to do with having older siblings in school. She LOVES books. She’s always making up her own stories and I told her she should grow up to be an author. She thought that was a pretty good idea! One day she asked me for a piece of paper so she could practice writing stories for when she gets big. She loves anything “BALL”. She was so sad that she couldn’t be on Jake’s T-ball team and B-ball team. The thing is … she may be shorter than them, but she is just as good as they are or better than some. Sign up’s for this summer’s T-ball are this month and she is very excited that this time she will get to sign up.

Landon is 18 months. He’s our silent terror! He just goes around the house, not making much noise, and destroys everything he sees. J But, he’s the baby, and everyone adores him, and he just gets away with everything. Man! I swore I wouldn’t do that, but I guess I have. I so did not want another Barry running around. Hahahaha J/K! He is saying a few words, but he doesn’t say much. He is a lot like his Dad and only says things when it is important. Speaking of … I think he has just woke up from his nap and so I will end this.

Love to all of you and hope that all is well with each of you!

Barry & Alisa 2009

2009/2010
What a year. The newsletter really did catch me off guard this year. I can’t believe it is time to write once again. All in all, 2010 finds our family doing well and in good health, which we are grateful for. We do wish that we could live closer to everyone and be able to get to a reunion once in a while.
Since last year:
Addyson—has grown up way too fast. We can’t believe that she is already TWO years old. She may be only two, but she still is the boss around the house. I swore I would never spoil my children, but I think I tend to a little anyways. She enjoys watching Disney’s “Cars” Movie and watches it to ad nauseam. She is an independent soul and always has to do everything herself, no matter how grown up the thing might be. She loves to sing, run, play at the park, help her mom and get into trouble. Her greatest accomplishments are singing the abc’s and spelling her name. We love her and she definitely has her dad wrapped around her little finger.
Alisa—has been the hero of the year in our family. She has gone through a great deal with the moves and the deployment. She may disagree, but I think she has gone through it all with a great deal of grace and poise. She has, through it all, really managed to provide a stable and positive environment for Addy and for us all. I am grateful every day that I lucked out to be her husband. I think she is ready to get to our next duty station and hopefully settle down for a couple years, at least.

For me, I finally was able to get my deployment to Iraq—even though it was cut a little short. It got the proverbial monkey off my back and I can move on, in my own mind, at least. I really don’t know how to fit in the whole story in one news letter, so I will give a simple outline, and then if anyone cares to hear more about it, hopefully we can chat around the camp fire at this year’s reunion. For me, this was the fifth try to get to Iraq. For the past couple of years I have been training to be an advisor/trainer to the Iraqi Border Forces. I was really looking forward to be a part of a small 10 man team, patterned around a Special Forces team, which would be sent out to the edge of the world and train an indigenous force that spoke a different language. The training was intense and more akin to what I thought I would be doing as a Marine--a lot of shoot-move-communicate, along with cultural and language training. By the time I finally made it to Iraq, so much had changed with the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between the Coalition Forces and Iraq, that, while danger was still present, it was much less of “war” and much more of a nation building experience. Also, rather than getting sent to the wide open desert along the Iraqi/Syrian border, I was given my own team of young, inexperienced Marines, none of who were trained as advisors and was also given the charge to train two District’s worth of Police in the center of the Al An bar province. Working in populated cities was where the stress came, but in all honesty, I never truly feared for my life or safety. We trained hard and worked hard to build a good relationship with the Police and local population which in turn, gave us a reasonable amount of confidence that we would be okay. The whole deployment only lasted about four months, but I saw a lot in that short amount of time that really makes me grateful for the wonderful country which we live in.
Now that I am back, I am looking forward to moving on in my career as a Marine. We are going to be headed to one of the most desolate places in the United States (29 Palms, CA), but are glad to be staying in the West and actually a little closer to family. I will be working at the Marine Corps Communications/Electronic School and hopefully learning a little myself.
We really look forward to being up at Grey’s River for the reunion this year and for most of you to meet and get to know Alisa and Addyson.
Until then,
Barry, Alisa and Addyson.

Dear Family,

Thanks Nicole and Shane for doing the newsletter this year. Thanks also to Sharon and Bob’s family for the reunion at the Springs In Afton. That was so much fun and finally we got to see a famous thing right in Wyo. I find it so good that so many of you guys travel so far for our family reunions. How pleased Dean and Neva must be.
Our family has been happy and well this year. The beginning of 2009 was quiet for us. We spend as much time we can in Poky so we can see Vance and Parker.
Star Valley Furniture still continues on and on and on I know that should be a good thing and it is but surely a relative needs to buy a furniture store in the middle of beautiful Star Valley.. Such a money maker too !!!!!! Larry’s fishing stories in include a fun trip with Bob, Ray B., Jim B. to Holter Lake in Montana. They of course knocked em dead as they say... If anyone says Larry got skunked just don’t believe a word of it Sharon and Bob spent Easter with us in Poky. Bob learned the fine art of coloring eggs from Parker.
The highlight of 2009 for us was going to Oceanside for Jason and Chelsea’s wedding/ What a beautiful event it was !!!!! Everything was planned and executed so well. Chelsea did most of the festivities herself. She does have a wonderful Mom and some good friends who helped. The beach, the flowers, the reception, the music, the HUNKO groom, the food. It was all amazing. The first song at the reception was Johnny’s tape of “GEORGIA ‘ That brought some tears. I felt Johnny more than once that day. Curt did an excellent job of giving the bride away. I am sure Johnny is proud of them all. One big miracle of that wedding is that we >hillbillies that we are.> got to California and back with not too much trouble. We were lucky to have Gerald and Tena Ross, Shawn,Hillary and kids and Vance for Thanksgiving in Pokey. I say luckey Tena wanted to go to Chuck a rama and so did I but what’s done is done. Maybe next year.
Vance and Parker came to Wyo. For xmas .If you end up with two houses remember that if you put two trees up they eventually have to come down. We did have a great Christmas , hope you all did too.

Love to all........Can’t wait for July

Greetings all,
This is a great opportunity , to give a shout-out to Noodles.(thats Uncle Newel, to you rookies)
Parkers mom has moved back to American Falls, from Pocatello. That means Parker will be going to kindergarten, here in town. I cant believe he is going to be getting on a school bus. i am so sad... Who am i kidding, thats free daycare, baby!! Whoo;Hew. Yes!
I spent most of the winter on my snowmobile. The last ride of the season, was horrible, Shawn knows which time, i am speaking of. i almost borrowed on of his sleds, for one of my boys. Anyway, i ended up losing my i-phone, jacking up my knew & the clutch in the Arctic Cat. went to the happy hunting ground. I am so glad this season is over. We had a crappy snow season, anyway. Bob and Larry are going to play hell, launching the boat this year.

I cant wait to see all of you! I love you, and miss you...

Dear Family,
I hope this letter finds everyone healthy and happy. We are doing fine. It seems like last year was a blur, but here are some of the highlights.
John and I didn’t really plan any trips for 2009, but are planning to go to Hawaii in October of 2010. I have always wanted to go. I’m very excited!
John and Curt surprised me for my birthday this year! We were in the middle of having a birthday party, and everyone was trying to keep me busy, and Curt and Tyler snuck in the house. I was busy getting cake for everyone, and I turned around to talk to my nephew and there stood Curt and Tyler! I was so surprised, I was speechless! That was so awesome!! They were able to stay a few days with me and we had so much fun.
I went to stay with Curt, Jerri & Tyler for a week when Ella was born. Curt and I stained both of the decks on his home. We both decided we didn’t want to do that for a living. Then, our beautiful Ella Lee was born on August 5th. She is such a beautiful baby! Curt, Jerri and Tyler are so happy. Tyler loves his baby sister!
Chelsea and Jason were married on the beach on October 10, 2009. Chelsea and Jason planned such a perfect wedding! Everything was so beautiful! We were so happy that Florence, Larry & Vance were able to be there. We had a wonderful time! Thanks Flo for the help with the floral arrangements and babysitting!! Much appreciated.

Chelsea, John, and I went to Curt and Jerri’s for Christmas. We were able to spend some quality time with the kids and grandkids. Tyler is quite the little singer. He’s so cute when he sings Jingle Bells and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. We had such a good time.
I just got back from visiting Chelsea and Jason. We painted the master bedroom. It turned out so pretty. We also decided that we wouldn’t be quitting our day jobs to take up painting!!

We were sorry that we missed the Reunion last year. But, we are planning to be there this year. Chelsea and Jason, and their friends Kim and Jeff are planning to be there also. Curt, Jerri, Tyler, and Ella won’t be able to make it this year. I’m so sad about that. I would love to have them there too. Maybe next year!
We are looking forward to seeing you all at the reunion!
We love you very much!

Hello everyone,
With Uncle Newells persistance and not giving up on me, I am finally going to get this to Nicole, I am so
sorry to hold up the progress AGAIN!! I am still working at the Ford dealership in Rexburg as the service
manager, just trying to keep afloat like everyone else in our lovely economy. Shon is going to be
graduating this year, which I am still trying to accept and get a grip on, that just means I am getting older
too. ha ha. Both Shon and Austin are doing great in school. Shon is amazing on his drums, the whole
town lights up when he played at all the home football games, will be sad not to hear him anymore.
Austin loves computers and is into riding his skateboard now that the snow is starting to melt....yeah!!!!
I am dating a wonderful man and we can’t wait til this summer to go play on the boat!!! Mom and Byron
moved to Rigby this winter so they are very close to me now, which I love!! I hope everyone is doing
well, love you all. Going to try hard to make it to the reunion this year.
Love,
Mikki, Shon, and Austin
