NaDean 2012

Dearest Family,
My life is boring!! An ache here and a pain there, so---I’m going back to yester-year and try to tell you some things that will be more interesting than my life at the present.
I’ve always tried to think of myself as “young.” However, my body at this point forces me to face REALITY. When you get right down to it, I’m a pioneer of a sort. When you remember using a rope pulley to get water out of the well, I’m sure you’ll all agree I sound ancient. I can also remember watching my mother clean coal oil lamps, (no electricity as of yet.) It was an exciting day when dad tied a string to a light bulb, pulled, and there was light. I imagine I was about 4 then. Running water in the house happened about the same time. For all youngsters this happened in the old log house that is now out in the field behind the red brick house.
I lived in that house until I was 14. Robert was 6 months old when we moved into the new house. The old house had three rooms: kitchen, front room and bedroom. We three girls slept horizontally in one bed, mom and Ken in the other, ‘till he got too old, and then it was John’s turn. There was always a baby in the crib. Dad slept on the couch in the front room and tended the fire. At first we hung our clothes on nails in the corner of the bedroom. Finally, Ether Baker built a white wardrobe. What a treat! (I think it’s still in the house.) We had a place for our clothes!
The floors all had linoleum. The kitchen was the best. It was black and red checks on grey. Mom, Sharon and I took turns mopping and waxing it. The front room and the bedroom were blue and pink with flowers. Mother kept the walls papered. She also had pretty curtains for the windows and pots of geraniums in the front room. There was always a stove in the front room to keep us warm. At one time there was a big Morning Glory stove that was big enough to sit on the top and get warm in the morning.
We bathed once a week in a long galvanized bathtub that we brought in from outside. Mother made sure we washed good during the week and put deodorant on.
A job I hated was the one of gathering chips. Sharon and I would go out in the barnyard and find a very little piece of wood to make the fire in the stove hot enough to bake bread. It seems this job never ended.
The only hardship, I felt, we every really suffered was having to go to the outhouse in the middle of the dark scary night to go to the bathroom.
The old house was located directly behind the new house. There were 3 or 4 beautiful trees on a pretty green lawn right in front. Sharon and I made beds for our dolls at the base of the trees. We also had fun climbing the trees. It was the family’s greatest sorrow that we put the new house where it now stands and moved those trees.
I dream of winning the lottery and fixing that old house up like it used to be.
I am having fun this year going to the pool at seven each morning and doing exercises with my friends.
Lots of exciting things coming up—Logan and Annie’s wedding April 30th, Katie going on a mission and Jase working hard in Texas on his mission. Josh and Rilee are working hard in school and on the job.
It will be great to see you all at the reunion.
                                                Lots of Love, Auntie Nadean

Hello Humpherys Family!
This year’s newsletter was written by: Koda

…Well, let me start off by saying this past year has been full of ups and downs, a lot has been going on in the Cassell Household! So many changes…the biggest is: I don’t have to sleep alone! When Katie’s home she lets me sleep with her and when she’s not, Rilee will sometimes let me sleep with her. If Rilee doesn’t want me I usually bark until Mom comes to get me and lets me stay in their room. It’s AWESOME!

Logan came home from his Mission to Lubbock, Texas in April!

Everybody was so happy to see him. I was mad! He left me for a year and a half! It took me a while to forgive him. But now things are cool. He had a rough summer. He has been diagnosed with something called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The doctors think it started after he had Mono on his Mission and didn’t properly recover from that. Mom and Dad and Logan spent a lot of long nights together, watching countless TV shows on Netflix and movies, trying to get Logan’s mind off the pain and tired enough to fall asleep with the pain. But, with some good care from some great doctors, (and from Mom and Dad!), Logan started feeling better! He took an EMT course in the fall and now has begun classes at LDS Business College in Medical Assisting. He wants to graduate in the medical field, maybe a Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. He loves healthcare and feels like its where he belongs. He even got a job at an outpatient surgery clinic, checking patients in and assisting them. He isn’t home very much, but I still get a good belly rub from him most days! And he speaks Spanish to me…I don’t understand what he’s saying, but it sounds cool! Probably the biggest highlight of Logan’s year was he got engaged!

I like her! Her name is Annie; she is over at our house a lot and tells me that I’m her favorite dog! She is taking a semester off school at BYU where she is studying ‘Sewing and Clothing Design’, to work and save for the wedding while she does an internship with a local clothing company called ‘Shabby Apple’. They are getting married on April 30th this year.
Katie spent the summer at home with me! Although she worked 9-5 at a daycare, taking care of babies…I don’t know what she sees in them. All they do is cry and poop! I don’t cry EVER and at least I poop outside! She says they are soooo cute! But, I know that she still loves me best! In the fall she went back down to school at UVU where she is studying ‘Elementary Ed’. I miss her, but I know she is having fun, doing crazy things with her roommates.

(That’s her inside the drawer!!) She nanny’s for a family of five kids in Orem and is always talking about the two littlest boys, but she comes home to visit me and I am the first one she says hi to when she does! On the downside…Katie is going on a Mission! She is going to the Washington, Tacoma Mission! That means she’s gonna leave me for a year and a half! She is so excited and the family is all excited for her, (except me!) she finds out where she will be serving on February 13th! She will leave soon after Logan and Annie’s Wedding. All I can say is she’d better snuggle with me and feed me lots of treats before she goes!
Rilee is a 9th grader and will go to a brand new High School in Draper in the fall.

She has taken up tumbling! She is constantly bounding around the house. She can do a back tuck and a back handspring (with a spot). Other than going to school and tumbling, Rilee spends a lot of time babysitting. I think she is a favorite in the ward. She also talks a lot about the kids she watches! What is it with kids? Why are they so great?

Rilee put on her 2nd annual Haunted House in our backyard again this Halloween. She spent countless hours of prep and it was a major success! Tons of people came through! She did all the decorations, props, costumes, and even did the special spooky make-up! Although, it wasn’t fun for me…I had to stay inside all night! They thought I would be in the way! How rude!       Anyway, Rilee has a creative flair in fashion, decorating and make-up artistry. Her friends always want her to do their make-up for them. Once she even put some blush on me! I looked ridiculous! She thought it was the cutest thing ever! (I learned to hide when she has her make-up out!)
Dad still puts long hours in at the office. I think his efforts to build the company are paying off. Lightstream Communications has been getting bigger and becoming more profitable. He has to travel still to Denver every week but he’s only gone for the day, usually he’s home for dinner! Over the past year Dad has been trying to eat less and workout more.

He looks great! I don’t get as much goodies under his chair at dinner anymore L but at least he still tries to give me my favorite dog treats all the time.
Mom left me for a whole week this summer while she went to Girl’s Camp! She was the camp director for the 2nd year. She spent a lot of time preparing for a great time for the girls.

She discovered Pinterest and got a lot of ideas from there. (She still enjoys creating, crafting and trying new recipes at home). I think camp was a success. When she finally came home I followed her around for a few days just to make sure she wouldn’t leave me again! She does a good job at taking care of everyone in our home.
All in all, it’s been a good year, (minus one bad haircut!). We have a lot to be thankful for…Logan is improving and getting married! Katie is going on a mission! And even though Rilee and me will be the only kids at home…we have each other! Maybe this year I’ll get to come to the reunion??? (Please put in a good word for me!) Until then I’ll be sleeping

Carol & Blair 2012

Dear Family,

Where does time go? We have been so busy, it seems like we just wrote yesterday. So here is what’s happening in our world.

Blair:  Has picked up all the Las Vegas, Salt Lake and St. George assignments for his company plus many other assignments. He loves his job but is ever so busy in his travels. His assignments have necessitated a major change in our lives and we have sold our home and will be moving to St. George right away.

Carol: Will be leaving Intermountain Medical Center and starting a new job at Dixie Medical Center in St. George next week.  While more money it is stressful to start a new job.

Josh: Is working hard and will be moving into a new place with JoJo. We will miss them both but are so proud of his accomplishments and know he will continue to do well.

Jase: Has loved his mission and the people of New Mexico but his mission will soon end and he will be returning home on June 12th. He will be flying into St. George since we will be living there when he returns.  His homecoming will be June 23 in our current ward in Salt Lake.  It will be good for him to be able to report his mission and share his love with those he knew before and will be leaving behind as he starts a new adventure in St. George.

So you see we are all starting a new and exciting adventure in our lives. Our new home should be finished in October and we will be staying in Blair’s brother’s condo until then.  We are looking forward to this new adventure and hope to see you all in St. George in the months and years ahead.
Our love,

Carol, Blair, Josh and Jase

Dear Family,
I’ve written this Family Newsletter twice, so maybe the third time will be the charm. One of the main things I’ve learned on my mission is to be grateful. And I’m grateful for my family. It’s been a long time since I’ve written to any of you. Sorry!
I’ve a lot to be grateful for since the last family reunion, which was up at Greys River. The last one I missed was at Uncle Newell’s and Aunt Sally’s.
I’ve been on my mission for what seems like a short and then again a long time—this depends on the day and my attitude. Things seem to go better when I’m really into it.
I have a lot to be thankful for and reasons to keep my head held high. I’ve learned that one of the biggest things to be grateful for is family.
I’ve learned a lot about myself while I’ve been out here. Now some of you may be wondering where “here” is. I’m in the New Mexico, Albuquerque Mission. I’ve had a total of six areas; three in Albuquerque, one in Santa Fe and two in El Paso, Texas. Same state that Logster served, and possibly other family members too, Texas is huge. I hear that Trae and Katie are and will be on missions soon. They will be great.
Now, I’ve had my ups and downs but I’ve learned all the way, being away from home has been challenging, but challenges usually help you to grow. I’ve had the honor to help others learn and apply the restored gospel. Now, I haven’t been perfect, probably will know less than other missionaries (that are now 18 years old) that are just starting. And hey, in closing, I love the quote that my mom sent from Pres. Monson: “Courage is the little voice that says, I’ll try again tomorrow.”
                                                            Love,
                                                            Elder Lancaster

Sharon & Bob 2012

Dear Family
I think everyone knew we took a trip to Baton Rouge La. Went to see Bobs Sister and her husband and their children.
It was a very long trip we traveled about 600 miles per day. We were so lucky weather wise.
We are a little too old to take such a trip, or should say too young ha ha
Robert was on my mind all the time, I know they traveled through Texas a lot. I know we all miss him so very much.
Bob is out blowing snow we sure do need it.
Palisades looks like a river.
Not much going on in, Keep hearing they might put a wal mart in and a Temple which is for sure.
We are going the 4th of July to see the twins
Meet half way, not sure what is half way yet.

Kim & Bryan 2012

Hello dear family,

I just got my e-mail from Ryan yesterday and decided not to procrastinate any longer getting this letter off.  I know that sometimes we think of it as a bit of drudgery, but I know how much I enjoy reading each of your letters.  It’s an important thing that our family does, and I want to thank Ryan for taking on the task this year.

2012 was a very busy year for us.  Last year at this time Bryan and I were up to our elbows in sheet rock dust.  We are now finished with the inside remodeling of our home.  We left all the beautiful original wood work intact, but pretty much started over on the rest.  It’s been a labor of love.  We both love old houses and antiques so we tried to keep the feel of the house the same.  We are both really happy to have it done.  Now we need to focus on the landscaping.  I’m anxious to have flowers again.  We are also planning on building an arena this spring.  We’ve hired a gal to help us do some riding this summer.  We’re going to focus on selling down the herd and keeping just the speed horses.  It’s been a lot for us to manage.  The drought has definitely played a factor in our decision, plus the horse market has been very flat and doesn’t seem to be coming back anytime soon.

Bryan had a good year hunting!  He got a bear in Minnesota in early September, got a nice Elk in the Black Hills in October and then got a really nice deer in November right on the farm.  Needless to say we have the freezer full of meat.  He’s also a very good cook, especially with wild game so we eat well!  Too well!

My life is pretty much a carbon copy of years past.  I still work at the TV station selling TV advertising.  I have some wonderful clients who have become good friends.  I love being a grandmother to the twins and all of Bryan’s grand kids as well.

Bryan and I took a wonderful trip out to see Mom and Bob this summer.  Bryan had never seen that part of Wyoming so it was fun to show him my old stomping grounds.  He loved the fishing…and BSing with Bob.  Pam, Mom and I went to see Gerald and took a short trail ride with him and some dudes.  Next time I want to spend a couple of days with him…if he will have me.  It all went too fast, but I won’t have any trouble talking Bryan into going again.  We are still feasting on some of the trout we caught.  It was such a fun trip and we both loved spending time with Mom, Bob and Pam.  I wish Ray could have come too.  Bryan is ready to meet him!

Mom and Pam made a trip out to SD in September.  It went by much too quickly, but we were all so thankful they came to see us.

Sawyer and Sophia are the light of my life.  I babble on about every detail of their little lives to whoever will listen.  I’ve got the Grandma Bug bad!  Speaking of bugs…we all got some nasty stomach bug in early February.  Both of the twins ended up in the hospital for a few days.  All is well now, but it was very stressful on Mandy and Chris.

So life is good.  I think I hit the high lights of the last year.  I look forward to reading your letters.

Love,
Kim and Bryan

Hello dear family,
I thought this might be the quickest way to let you know about Sharon’s condition.  She had a triple bi-pass on Thursday March 7th, but she’s a true Humpherys and tougher than nails.  She came thru the surgery fine and is doing very well.  She is on a significant amount of pain medication and other drugs that make her sleepy so she isn’t much for talking on the phone right now.  She is at the:
Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center
3100 Channing Way
Idaho Falls, ID  83404
I know without asking that she will be in your prayers and so I thank you for that.
Love to you all!
Kim

Pam & Ray 2012

Hello my dear family

So sorry that I am late. Not much has changed since last year. Mom and I got to go see the twins in September. That was so wonderful. Mom and I are quite the travelers.  Bob stayed with Ray and they went fishing with the dogs.    Lucky them. We bought a used 5th wheel this year.  So really looking forward to going fishing this year   Ray plans to retire in July.  HE moved it up a few months witch was no big deal.  I'll be working for a while longer.
Thank you Ryan for doing the newsletter this year.  Looking forward to a new year and visiting my family as much as we can.   We love you all and so grateful we have such a wonderful family.
   Love Pam and Ray

Mandy & Chris 2012

Dear Wonderful Family,

Ok, now that I have a few minutes to myself (the twins are napping) and now that our computer is FINALLY fixed, I will now write our terribly late newsletter!  I am so sorry about this being late Ryan; thanks for doing the newsletter this year!

WOW!  How life does change dramatically with children!  Last newsletter the twins were new additions to our household!  I can’t believe how fast the first year has gone by!  It makes me very thankful that I was able to become a stay at home mom with them.  It has truly been a blessing to watch them grow and be able to see their memorable milestones and achievements!  I often laugh at myself for what I used to say to people who asked me if I was nervous and/or ready for twins before they arrived.  I would tell them, “Oh, I am not too nervous and think I will do just fine because I used to work at a daycare for five years and I teach Kindergarten and have twenty plus kids in my class so I should be able to handle twins!”  I think God was smiling down whenever I would say that response and has humbled me as a parent to realize just how crazy and maybe not as prepared as I thought I was! :)  Let’s just say we go by my doctor’s philosophy quite a bit which is whatever plans you have made and you think it will go a certain way, you better throw it out the window because with twins, you will just have to do what you have to do to get by and survive!  We are very fortunate to have our parents live so close and be able to help us when we need it!  The twins get to see Grandma Kim every weekend and they are very blessed to have four awesome grandparents who love them to pieces!  In all honesty, we LOVE being parents and don’t know what we would do without them…nor do we know what we did with our time before them! :)

Sophia is my little mother hen.  She is so caring and is always, or I guess I should say, most of the time, thinking of Sawyer first.  She will bring his blanket and sippy cup to him first and then go and get her own.  She loves to sleep late in the mornings (takes after her momma there) and likes to play with the bazillion toys we have.  One of the things Sophia likes to do is put her snow boots on in the morning, and she will literally want to wear them all day long!  Hopefully that will change before summer gets here!  Speaking of snow boots, they received sleds for their first birthday and because of either lack of snow or being too cold and windy, we get to pull two sleds around the house for hours!:)  We love our little girl so much and she brings such joy and laughter into our hearts!

Sawyer is my little reader.  He LOVES to look at books and be read to!  His favorites are animal books and he will point at the different animals and grunt if I am too slow to tell him their names and what noise they make!  Sawyer takes after his dad and I believe will be the next future engineer in our family.  Sawyer loves to have whoever spin the ceiling fans in our house (thanks to Grandpa Randy) and so he went through a stage where we would have to spin the ceiling fans like 100 times a day!....and it didn’t work to just turn them on because that wasn’t the same!  Their favorite show is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney.  It is hilarious because we will be playing in a different part of the house when they will hear the “Hotdog Song” come on.  They will come running into the living room to watch and start dancing to the song!  Sawyer is such a precious little boy and we love him so much!  He warms our hearts and we feel so very blessed to have twins, not to mention one of each!

Chris is on his 6th year of working at Trail King as a mechanical engineer and specifically designs the heavy specialized trailers.  He loves what he does, but doesn’t like all the politics that go along with it.  I am so very proud of him because he is one of their top engineers and always gets raving reviews and has been told that he is in line to be the next chief engineer when the current one retires.  Besides working at Trail King, he still gets to hobby farm on the weekends at his grandmother’s farm.  That is where his heart is and he would farm full time if he could.  He still likes to get out and work in the shed but doesn’t get out there very much these days!  Chris is a terrific dad and the kids just LIGHT up when he gets home!

Like I said before, I am now a stay at home mom and loving it!  I do miss teaching Kindergarten some days but I know that I can always go back to teaching after we are done raising our family.  Chris and I both help out with our Church’s elementary youth club on Wednesday nights and so I am able to get my teaching fix by helping with that.  In the little bit of spare time that I have, I enjoy reading a good book, and am looking forward to summer so that I can plant some flowers and hopefully get back to doing a little horseback riding.  We purchased a new horse for me last fall and so I am looking forward to doing some riding with my mom and introducing the twins to our family love for horses.

As for our other two inside four legged children, life is just not quite the same since the twins.  Punky LOVES the twins but does not LIKE the twins and so she spends most of her day locked up in the hallway sleeping the day away until the twins go to bed.  I think she liked them much better before they became mobile!  As for Turbo, he is their best friend and many a times a lifesaver for me to help to keep them entertained.  He licks their faces off, steals their toys and chews on them, tries to eat their food off the highchair, but he loves them to death and is worth his weight in gold!

We were fortunate enough to have Pam and Grandma Sharon come visit us this last summer and we are looking forward to hopefully getting to see all of them again this summer in the Black Hills over Labor Day weekend!
Well, we wish we didn’t live so far away from everybody!  I sure am grateful for the newsletter so that we keep informed of how everybody is doing each year.  We love and miss you all and can’t wait until the next time we are able to come to the family reunion and see everybody!  We pray God’s blessings on each of our precious family members!

With Love,

Chris, Mandy, Sawyer, and Sophia Williams

Memories
I am going to do something a little different this year. My letter is going to be titled memories.
I want to go back to the things I remember about my grandparents, parents, siblings, and kids and grandkids.
My first memories of my Grandpa Humpherys are when I was probably about five or six years old.  Grandpa would come to visit and to help us in Etna on the ranch.  He always wore a hat, dark glasses and carried a cane. I did not realize at that time that he was losing his sight.
My next memories were down in Logan.  I most likely was seven.  The family would go to Logan with Mom and Dad, stay with Aunt June but always went to visit Grandpa and Grandma Liza.  She was my step-grandmother. My grandmother passed away when Dad was young so I never had the privilege of knowing her. Grandma Liza was a kind person. I had the opportunity to help her do her vacuuming. She had a big old up-right. I think it could have been a Kirby.  It was heavy, had a light on the front and I always played like it was a tractor as I would go around the room vacuuming . Grandma Liza had a stroke when I was a junior at Star Valley High School and passed away shortly after that. Some of my best memories of Grandpa Humpherys was when I lived with him while I was going to college at Utah State. Grandpa was totally blind by then. In fact, I know he was blind the last 30 years of his life. I asked him why and how he lost his sight   He told me the best way he could explain it was if you threw a hand full of mud at a window, some places the mud would cover and some places you could still see through. In time all the places you could see through would close in until he couldn't see any more. It made sense to me. I was really amazed how independent Grandpa was and how well he got along. He could cook and do most of the household chores.  He would walk up to the Temple and do temple work most every day. Sometimes he would go by himself, but other times he had a friend that he would meet and they walked together.
Grandpa lost part of his left hand in a rock crusher. He had his thumb and index finger was all. I can still see him holding his bread in that hand when we were eating. I learned a lot from him, I loved him; he was a kind and good man.
My first memories of Grandpa Clark and Aunt  Annie are a little vague because Aunt Annie stayed in Logan when Grandpa came to the valley every spring. You see Aunt Annie was my step Grandmother also. I didn't understand this at first how she could be my aunt and Grandmother at the same time. I didn't know  my real Grandmother. She passed away when Mom was around four years old.
Aunt Annie was the wife to Gene Weber who was the brother to Grandma Clark. He died also. Aunt Annie had five kids and Grandpa Clark had 7 or 8 kids. Anyway, they were married and raised their families together. Aunt Annie lost her left hand in an accident. I'm not really sure how it happened. It was really amazing how much she could do with the stub that was left from her elbow down.
Grandpa Clark would come to Etna every spring and help Uncle Wilfred farm and help Dad lots of the time. Grandpa loved to drive tractors. I know he farmed with horses, but I feel he was a happy man when tractors came on the scene. They would go fast,  pull more and didn't get tired. They didn't have welders in Grandpa's day, but he could fix anything with baling wire and a pair of pliers even patch canvas dams that wouldn't leak!
I lived with Grandpa and Aunt Annie when I came home from my mission to Australia.  I learned a lot from them. Grandpa was a very talented musician. He could sing, play the organ, the piano, the fiddle and etc. He had a family dance band and they played at lots of dances in the Valley.
Grandpa was kind of a health food nut. I remember him taking some delicious, homemade, whole wheat bread, slice it, then lay it out to dry. I can still hear them chopping on that old, dry bread! He said it created more saliva when you ate it so your food would digest better. Maybe this is where I get some of my health food ideas!
Grandpa had a good sense of humor. One of his favorite sayings was that you could get more mileage out of your tires by going around corners on two wheels!!
I could say a lot more about both of my grandparents. I loved them all. They were good to me and I felt that they loved me also .
I could fill volumes about Mom and Dad. I just want to share some  of the highlights that stand out in my mind. When I was five years old, Dad decided that he should go fight for America to defend our freedom in the Second World War. I am sure it was not an easy decision having a wife and four kids and knowing the reality of war that when he left he may never come back. I know he had a lot of faith and if he and Mom did the right thing, such as saying family prayers and paying tithing, he would be protected and be able to return home, and he did.
One of my first memories was when Dad had a big auction sale and sold all the horses, cows, and farm equipment. I was five years old and riding a big sorrel mare named Bird. I don't know if I was helping and only in the way but Dad made me feel like I was helping. Edwin Ivie asked me if he was going to sell my horse too. I said, "I guess so." And he did. The only two horses he kept was Goldie who was just a young, maybe two years old, and Ole Chief. I am not really certain about Ole Chief because Dad referred to him in some of his letters. When Dad came home, I know we still had him. As I have become an adult, I have learned to appreciate some of the things they must have gone through during this trying time of war, the uncertainty of what was going to happen to our country, to Dad, to their family, and just being separated from each other as things were going on around them. We give Dad lots of credit for having the courage and patriotism to go and do what he felt he must do. I am not sure we give Mom the credit courage she had to have to stay and take care of us kids and continue to love and support her husband during these time. After a furlough from basic training,  Dad was gone close to two years fighting on the front lines in Italy and Germany. None of us will ever know what Mom and Dad went through at that time. All I know is that Dad said in one of his letters is that war is hell and I am sure that it was and it still is. Time has a different meaning to me today than back when I was six years old. As the time past and the war ended, it was announced on the radio that the war was over. Nadean, Sharon and I took Mom's dishpans and wooden spoons and marched up and down the side on the road beating on the dishpan with the wooden spoons singing that our dad would be coming home! We were very happy indeed! When Dad returned, I am sure the next few years were a struggle. Starting over having to buy new horses, cows, machinery and just becoming part of his family once again. When Dad came home is when I started learning to ride, to work, to help with all the chores that needed to be done. I feel that I learned a good work ethic from Dad and I learned a kind, gentle approach to life from Mom. Building a new barn and a new house brought many happy times and memories.
During my teenage, rebellious years I didn't always get along with Dad but as I grew up, I learned to appreciate his wisdom and many talents that he had. I appreciated Mom for always being the peacemaker and smoothing things over when I was often in the wrong.
How grateful I am for parents and grandparents who loved me and helped shape my life to some degree. I am thankful to Mom and Dad for instilling in me and all my siblings a very strong love for each other. I am very thankful for Johnny, Robert and Gordon Ray for playing a huge part in my life. Not really knowing Gordon Ray, I would have like to have known him as the big brother that I always wished I had. I miss Johnny and Robert more than words can tell and will always cherish the good times I had with them. I am so thankful for Nadean, Sharon, Florence, Ray, Gerald and Newell for the kind of people they are and the good example they are to me.
I am thankful for my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is interesting to watch your children struggle and grow with some of the same experiences that we as parents have gone through. I am proud of each of them as I have watched them struggle and grow into responsible adults. I am thankful to Tawny for being a good mother to our children.
Time goes so fast. Now I am in the twilight of my years. This is not a last farewell. None of us really know how much time we have here on this ole earth. Dad past away at 71, Mom died at 90, both of my grandfathers lived into their mid-eighties, so I figure I have at least ten more years. Only time will answer that question!!! I have lots of things left to do, places to go, people to see.
I am so thankful for Myrna, for what she means to me in my life, for her love and support that she has given me during the thirteen years we have been married. I am so thankful for the blessing of going to the temple on October 20, 2012, and being sealed for time and for all eternity. I am thankful to Myrna's family for the way they have accepted me into their lives.
Myrna and I have chosen to stop doing the petting zoos this year and concentrate on wagon rides and wedding carriage business. We have found this to be a good supplement to our retirement and it is one of the things I can still do and enjoy.
May we all have many happy and successful years and make many enduring and lasting memories together.

Kelly & Sandra 2012

This past year has been pretty good. We have been very blessed.

Brooke has moved to Studio city CA. She seems to like it.  As you all know she really loves Music-runs in the"H" family I guess.  She's been working on her first Song or Single as she likes to call it. She's close to being finished with it and then plans on releasing it on ITunes. We're Very proud of her and hope She does well in California. We certainly pray for her success.

Tanner is working at discount tire. He's been there for a while now and seems to like it. He's quite the good "tire-slinger".  He makes nice tips now and again, pIus it helps when it comes to buying tires.  His really into basketball and Volleyball and enjoys being with his friends.

Sandra is steadfast working for Dr. Weaver. It's been a good job for her and for us. The "Doc" has been a blessing for our family over these many years. She enjoys helping others and Is a great friend to many, but especially to me.  She has always been there for anyone who needs her.

We've enjoyed some small excursions by ourselves Such as Snowmobiling with some friends.

For me (Kelly) In Case you hadn't figured out who's writing the letter... Changing careers has proved to be quite the adventure.  In a good way I might add.  First I went to school to get into the computer field. Even though I got certified for base level technician stuff I finally had to accept that I'm just not smart enough for the stuff to really make a living.  Just by chance I got a job cleaning carpets.  Come to find out I quite like the work.  So, I sold my truck and Invested In my own carpet business.  So between cleaning carpets and still designing homes up in N. Dakota we're very fortunate.  We're very blessed and are grateful for the gospel in our lives.

Sorry it took so long to get out our newsletter and for holding up the show.  We love you all and always cherish when we get to see any of you.

Remember if any of you Come to Vegas we have plenty of room to stay or' just a quick hello.

Love from all of us.

Sherrie & Brent 2012

Greetings from Ketchikan Alaska,

Things are going well. We (mostly me) can't wait to get out on the boat and start hunting and fishing and sightseeing. I'm a little anxious to go black bear hunting for the first time ever, but I have a top notch guide so it should be good. I went on a hunt last year, but just as a tourist, this year will be a little more nerve racking for me.

We got a pot puller this year so look out all you giant spotted prawns, the dinner bell is ringing! It's wonderful to have so much fresh sea food only a few miles away and it's rediculously fun harvesting it! I will have fresh salmon, halibut, crab, giant spotted prawns (giant shrimp, is that called an oxymoron?), fresh black bear, and deer again hopefully in our freezer before the year is over. (Yes, grass fed black bear meat is good if you know how to take care of the meat properly, probably like any meat).

We've started our garden, inside, but I'm worried that as soon as we put stuff in the ground here at the house, we'll be baiting the bears and deer to come feast on our veggies. It's a toss up.... Do I shoot? It's going to be tricky with a gun in one hand and a camera in the other. Too many funny visuals come to mind.....  Now that I think about it, I'll bet I have more problems with keeping the gross yucky slugs from eating up our garden!!!! Oh how gross, I hate those creepers! Well this summer should be interesting.

We love our jobs. Brent currently is working on his second retirement and has a very good job as the Facilities and Maintenance Manager at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) base here in Ketchikan. He's already retired from the Coast Guard and before that was in the Army for 4 years. He's a very talented man. He wears many hats. He was in the scouting program in our ward until a few months ago for about 4 1/2 years. 3 of those years he was the Scout Master. We are currently teachers in primary together and love having a calling together. He also has an FFL and owns his own business, Special Order Store, which is for buying guns and ammo and anything along those lines. Plus he moonlights on the weekends working with me at the Coast Guard base at the Exchange helping them with the sporting goods end of things. PLUS, and this is one of my favorite job (hobbie) that he does, being my personal Chef!!!!!!!  I'm so blessed!!!!

Well I better get this sent to Ryan, bless his heart for doing this years newsletter, and getting engaged (congrats) and I hope all is well with all the family everywhere!

 XOXOXOXOX   Love Sherrie and Brent

DeAna & Brian 2012

I must need the crunch time adrenaline to help me put words on paper, because I’ve started this letter several times.

Part of me just wants to say, go to Facebook and see all of my amusing posts for the last year, but I know some of you aren’t even on that social network…

Here’s a brief synopsis of 2012…

Lexie came to live with us, so that makes five kids under our roof.  Braylan and Lexie are Brians 14 year old twins.  They are freshmen in high school.  They go to Cedar High School, but we won’t hold that against them.

Braylan played football and did really well his first year.  He’s that kid who does extra wind sprints after practice is over.  Glutton for punishment much? Braylan gets mostly A’s and some B’s.  He loves science and computer classes and wants to be an engineer someday.  He is the kid with a perpetual smile on his face, and I’m pretty sure he sees the world through a set of rose colored glasses.

Lexie is a delight to have at our home full time and not just on holidays.   She is a straight A student and placed in the top six in the state debate tournament as a freshman.  Not bad for a blonde…  She is helpful, kind, beautiful, has a strong spirit and did I mention smart?  She is in the advanced women’s choir and plays the guitar and piano.

Savannah is also a straight A student who loves school and does her homework promptly if she has any left from the bus ride home.  She is athletic, loves her family, is helpful, smart, organized and is entering into that “tweener” stage and that’s fun…  She has a beautiful voice, and can pick out melody lines of her favorite music on the piano easily.  Time for lessons for her.

Ian struggled last year in school due to a rotten teacher (who has since been fired), but has a wonderful teacher this year and has blossomed as a good little student.  His reading has really skyrocketed due to in part reading the Book of Mormon every night as a family.  I’m very happy about his improved progress.  He still has a hard time remembering to hand in the homework he has completed, but hey, at least he does it…(mostly).

Abby is the one who makes everyone laugh.  She has a blankie she has named Smelly and still sucks her thumb, but I’m confident she will outgrow that when she starts school *snort*.  Yes, confident…  She is a very active, smart as a whip, funny, loving little four year old that tells me often “I’m still your baby, huh, mom”.  Yes, yes she is.

As for Brian and I, we just try to keep up with it all.

Brian has started a jerky business and we just opened a Shave Ice shack called  the Hula Hut, but that didn’t happen in 2012 exactly, so I’ll have to expound on that in next years newsletter.

We love you all, and can’t wait to see you.

Mary Lynn & Gary 2012

Hello all,

Things are great. Emalee is 12, Jake is 10, Megan is 8, and Landon is 4.

Emalee is in 6th grade and did choir and drama. She still plays violin/fiddle and is part of TaVaci a performing arts group.

Jake is in 4th grade.  He played basketball this year and is in wrestling and starting baseball. He took a break from the fiddle but may start up again next year.

Megan is in the 2nd grade and still wishes she could play every sport. She plays with a group of boys at recess that tell me she's one of the best football players.  :-) She played basketball this year, was in TaVaci, is now in gymnastics, and will play softball. She is getting baptized in a couple weeks and is very excited.

Landon is 4 and in preschool.  He hangs out with his Dad a lot and gets into everything at the shop. Even when I don't need Gary to take him he does because Landon thinks I'm boring. He does come to PTA meetings with me once in a while and thinks he rules the school. He has the principal and secretary fooled.

Which leads to me ... I've been PTA president this year and I started substituting. Things are crazy busy and I can't wait for summer. Gary is still doing the same old thing.

Hope all is well for everyone.

~ Gary,  Mary Lynn, Emalee, Jake, Megan, and Landon Evans
