Humpherys Newsletter 2008
I like the questionnaire MaryLynn, and that’ll probably be the most interesting part of my newsletter.
We are trying to sell our house. I know that I’m supposed to write about ’08, but we’ve been trying since then to sell it. Not trying too hard mind you, as we got the idea last spring. We tried FSBO, but since I was expecting in July, not much happened with that. We’ve outgrown our house as it’s a very small starter home. We have decisions to make, but know that selling is the right thing to do. Wish us luck. We hope and pray that all will work out for our best good.
Savannah Skye: Our spunky, fearless, helpful, smarty pants started kindergarten this year. Her birthday is two weeks after the cut off date, so she’s the oldest in her class. She loves her teacher Mrs. Moss, and her class mates and declares a new best friend almost weekly. I am taxi as we live too close for bussing, but too far to walk (well now that it’s winter.) I’m pretty sure that G’ma is her favorite person besides Abby. If she could live with G’ma I think she would. Savannah is still taking violin lessons and is starting piano from Aunt MaryLynn. When she misses her dad too much she’ll wear one of his shirts. She and Ian are friends mostly, but foes all too often. She definitely fits the oldest child profile and I often have to remind her I’m the mother. Savannah broke her arm this fall—from falling. She was outside playing with Scott and she jumped off the roof of our lawn mower shed, lost her footing, broke her fall with her arm and broke her arm from the fall. She is mom’s right hand gal. She helps sooooooo much that it’s a noticeable difference when she’s gone (at Grandma’s).
Ian Scott: Our smart, loving, cheerful, funny boy. Ian is super smart when it comes to anything electronic. We were just today at a ward members house putting wheat into #10 cans, we were there all of ½ an hour. He wanted to watch a movie that they had downstairs. He kept asking, but my response was that we are almost finished, we don’t have time for you to watch a movie. He found a chair, snatched the movie from their shelf, came upstairs (stealthily), put the movie in their DVD player, and turned on their TV all on his own. Their equipment is most different than ours, but maybe the symbols are the same. That had us in stitches. He loves his computer games and TV shows, but I’m having to limit them as I think he’d watch/play them all day if he could.
Ian is in speech therapy still. There isn’t a definitive answer as to why he has trouble enunciating, but he just struggles with certain sounds. I think it’s because his brain goes faster than his tongue. He’ll skip over many words in a sentence, just saying what’s necessary for you to understand. I think he does the same with words. He comes from a long line of “fast talkers” in the Metzger line.
Ian is a wonderful boy. He is very concerned about other peoples feelings. He loves music, and is in the beginning phases of learning the violin and piano too.
He is a natural copy cat—sometimes much to the dismay of his older sister. We joke about the echo in the room. He’s tall like his momma. He’s learning good sportsmanship, but it’s a work in progress.
Abigail Rose: Born on July 8th, 2008. She was a colicky baby. That was a new experience for us as Savannah and Ian didn’t have much if any colic. We learned quickly that she slept really well if she was in her car seat, being held upright, or in her swing. As soon as we put her down, she’d wake up crying. Lying down flat seemed to be the problem, so we started to suspect acid reflux. After two long months of this, trying all the natural remedies, we finally went to the doctor. He prescribed an acid blocker. Long story short, after being enlightened about lactose intolerance, I decided to try eliminating dairy from my diet (since she is a breast-fed baby) to see if that made a difference. It did. Night and day difference. She’s our chubby, active, sweety. She is now 6 months old and is already starting to crawl. Slow down! Stay my baby. She and Savannah have a special sister bond. They love each other so much. It is adorable to watch them together. We love her and are glad we knew we needed one more to make our family complete.
Scott and DeAna: Scott is still working his two jobs. I still stay at home with kids. Scott is a cheerful, positive, patient hard working husband and father. I’m still working on patience. He loves his children, plays with them like a big kid and wants to spend more time with them. I love our children and wish Scott could spend more time with them. Scott still wants to get his degree in accounting, but school has been on hold for this last year. I want to go back to school and finish my degree too. I thought that once Savannah was in school I’d have some time freed up to pursue my education—wrong! Scott’s mom passed away in May after a long bought with cancer. My mom moved to Idaho Falls and we are blessed to get to see her all the time.
We are a work in progress.
We love you all. We look forward to the time we see you all again.
Love, Scott, DeAna, Savannah, Ian, and Abby Metzger
