Gerald & Tena 2011

Dear Family,

Another year has come and gone.  In May of 2011 I finished my 32 years of teaching and retired.  I then went to Grand Targhee for a couple of months.  Business was good but not as good as it could be. Then retirement really kicked in.  I spent about half of the fall in Star Valley and about half the fall in Blackfoot.  In the Valley I hunted with Shawn and Shane, rode 4 wheelers, rode horses,  packed out elk, and went on a cattle drive with Robert and J.P.  Did a few work projects, enjoyed the fall weather that the Valley has like no other place on earth.  Anybody jealous yet?  If not there is more.  Basically I did about what ever I pleased.

In Blackfoot I basically watched Trae play football.  They went through the regular season undefeated, then went 4 and 0 in the State play offs and won the State Championship.  Trae was voted player of the year in the State of Idaho. He received player of the year for the Post Register, Player of the year for the Idaho State Journal, plus the conference coaches Player of the year..   He has signed to play quarterback for Snow College.  He will probably red shirt the first year and then go on a mission after the first of the year.  Yeah I know that I am bragging to high heaven, but that's what Grandpa's are suppose to do.
I am proud of all my kids and grandkids, in case you have not noticed.

During the winter Tena and I watched Trae and Madison play basketball.  Traes team went 8-12 and did not go to state.  He was voted 1st team all conference and played on the all state in a all star game played in Coeur d'alene.  Madison's team went to State and brought home the third place trophy.

During the long winter months I also built a sleigh bed and a few other work projects.  Not nearly enough to meet Tena's satisfaction.  I also taught a little drivers education. I have been going to the temple about every other week, and have really enjoyed that.  I have also started indexing.  I have done over 500 names which is not really that great, but I enjoy doing it.    I have totally enjoyed retirement and highly recommend it to one and all.  I plan on running my riding stables for at least one more year.  Time will tell.  Tena has 3 more years and then she will retire.

I am the luckiest or you might say, very blessed to live so close to my kids and my grandkids.  We get together often and have some good old home cooking by Tena, and enjoy each others company.

Life is not just a bowl of cherries however.  I have had a few health proplems.  Mainly gout in my knees.  I am trying to get that under control.  Tena on the other hand eats right and exercises almost daily.   I admire her determination.

It sounds like everyone is doing fine in the family for those who share the Facebook news.  It sounds like the Humpherys grapevine has been replaced by Facebook and I am not happy about it.  Yes I am behind the times and will probably never catch up.

Not much else to say because my memory is leaving me,  and I can't remember what else happened.

Love,
Gerald and Tena
