Stephanie & Drew 2012

New Year, New Zip Code! It is the Spear Family anthem and this year we find ourselves in the 46254 area of Indianapolis Indiana. We spent the first half of the year in transition, spending most of our time at the Humpherys Hotel, and really enjoyed spending quality time with the family. Stockton was born in January and we are very grateful to have had so much family help as

Stephanie recovered from her c-section. One of the most memorable moments came as we spent the weekend in Spring City, UT for the 4th Annual Ray & Becky Humpherys Reunion. Although we are now so far away in “India” (as Melanie says) we enjoy skype-ing with the family and look forward to our visit to Utah in March.

Still not satisfied with his career and realizing how much he missed being a student, Drew has returned to the academic setting, and is currently finishing up his first year at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He works part-time as a Legal Assistant for a small law firm doing mostly estate planning work, while also interning as the Graduate Assistant of the Athletic Director at a local University. He is putting in long hours but is enjoying the new experiences and looks forward to pursuing a career in sports/health law.

Stephanie has settled into the area nicely and has surrounded herself with a great network of friends. When she is not getting together to watch Bachelor, teaching Primary or going to book club, she is Master of the Home and Mom Extraordinaire. She loves hanging out with our little guy during the day and then helping the girls with homework, piano, and chores in the afternoon. Any free time is spent engulfed in her latest scrapbook project or watching a show on Netflix.

Whether she is dressed up as Sacajawea for a school project or creating fabric wonders on her new sewing machine, Brooklyn has an eye for the creative and never stops thinking about her next project. She continues to read at a high level and enjoys reading both for school and for fun. While she missed her cousins and friends in Utah, she has made some great friends at school and church and gets along with everyone. She was recently voted in as the Student Body Representative for her class and also participates in the Math club. Brooklyn is nine, going on eighteen, and is blossoming into a wonderful young woman.

Whenever we need a laugh, we turn to Riley. She always has something up her sleeve and continues to amaze us with her boundless energy. She is also a very good reader and is enjoying full-day Kindergarten with a great teacher, Mrs. Shaw. Riley loves to run, climb, ride her scooter, big wheel, and any other activity that keeps her hair flowing in the wind. She is also growing up fast, as Drew found out the other day when she very seriously said to him while getting her pajamas on, “Dad, don’t look at me, I am a woman!”

Drew and Steph were concerned, as many are, with what kind of changes life would bring when adding a third child to the fold. Little did we know that little Stockton would bring us so much joy and happiness. He turned one year old a few weeks ago and is just so much fun. He loves to play ball with dad, snuggle with mom, and even rough-house with his sisters. He has beautiful blue eyes, makes the cutest facial expressions, and loves to just bang on the pots and pans on the kitchen floor. We all can’t give him enough hugs and kisses and he does his best to put up with that.

We look forward to another year of new experiences, fun adventures, and growing closer together as a family. We love you all Humpherys Family and wish you well.
