NEWSLETTER FOR 2017
From Ray and Becky:
2016 was a wonderfully eventful long year with many highs and a few lows. Yet, we feel we have been incredibly blessed and have hope for many more good times with family and friends.
Church jobs: We were team teachers for the cute Primary 7/8 year olds then Ray called into the H.P. group leadership, still Ward missionaries.
Work: Becky getting regular weekly nursing shift at clinic, saving for retirement. Passed off CPR! Ray still working as P.E. teacher at EagleCrest Elementary, but looking forward to retirement!
Gardening: Peas planted early, kept producing until the heat of July killed them (took too long, but were yummy!) Got soil sample to USU and it needed nitrogen. Beans grew really well compared to last year, froze them for green bean casseroles. Kept up with the zucchini. Tomatoes finally ripened in September, able to put up some salsa and chili sauce. Planted flowers in three new planters. Roses did great. Nectarine tree went crazy with over-production, yummy and juicy. We ate and gave away to neighbors and co-workers. We had thinned 8+ buckets of fruit before it mass-produced any way.
Jan: TV’s American Idol started its last season the 15th year! So sorry to see it go away! No ice fishing this year.
Feb: Baby Taylor Burnett was blessed. Lisa turned 39, we are the ones getting old! Got new garage door opener and piano tuned.
Mar: Went to lunch with Lisa, Michelle and Melanie and Stasia and Taylor for b-day. Saw Lisa and Paige clog. Played duet piano piece from Home Alone with neighbor Dana Hill, then they moved! Sad face! Easter party at Michelle/Ben’s.
April: Went to Logan to the baby animal day with Ryan and Natalie and Melanie and Michelle’s families. Michelle and Melanie still like to ride horses! Saw Aunt Grace/Uncle Bill, cousin Craig/Laurel Jones in Provo with sister Claudia after their grandson Cameron grad form BYU. Claudia likes to take pictures of pretty flowers like Becky! Lilacs in bloom!
May: Natalie Humpherys graduated from USU and then went to Africa in June. Elliot Decker graduated from the U, too. So proud of both! Trae Pilster got married, reception in South Jordan. Becky’s cousin’s daughter Candace Jones had wedding reception in Provo, nice to see Billings cousins. Rode banana bikes with friend Jen K. and Karen and her nephew Jim at Oquirrh Lake.
June: Steph and family here for 4 weeks, rode bikes, went to Park City, RV camping at the Spruces, lots of fun. Niece Holly Jones got married in new Provo City Center Temple. Ryan got to see Becky’s Rasmussen grandparents’ old house in Provo, took pictures. Baby shower for niece Karen Cromar. Saw WEST SIDE STORY play at Centerville Legacy Theatre with family, awesome!!
July: Burnett’s hosted the 7th annual R &B family reunion in Clearfield. Drew flew in from Indiana and we had a complete family picture after riding bikes to a nearby park. Hot day! Florence/Larry hosted the annual Humpherys’ reunion in a park in Pocatello. Great to see everyone there. (Hit orange road barrels on way up when ran out of road passing a truck, knocked alignment out, but we were protected from above!) Baby shower for Brynn Evans at Celeste Evans’ house.
Aug.: Camping with Lisa, too hot! Some water fun. Paige is a natural on a wake board. Went to Bob’s funeral, so sad to see a great man go. Becky’s swimming friend turned 75, she can still out swim her! Got another health insurance plan and LTC plans after 6 months’ consideration. Camille’s bridal shower here.
Sept: Camille and Lance married on the 30th, great wedding and reception! Sally and Newell here for the week to tie up loose ends. Sally biked miles to Curves to exercise, who does that?? Ha! We are the lazy ones! Myrna and Kenny here. Mryna and Becky shopped for Camille to help out. Kelly and Sandra stayed over.
Oct: Ray had one cataract done and we went to Park City to be with Lisa and family. Halloween: 3 amigos pumpkins, Melanie/Elliot and kids here, Becky pirate, Ray in scary shirt. Becky did one last bike ride with friend Else, she needs to work out more!
Nov: Josie got diabetes, so scary, lots of prayers, tended Carly and Wesley. Ray had second cataract done, lots of eye drops. Good turkey day food, nice pies, rolls, crockpot homemade stuffing, celebrated on Saturday here with family coming down except for Ryan/Nat in FL and Steph/Drew in IN.
Dec: Jasmine in Elf play, cute. Didn’t put up xmas trees, planned to go to Burnett’s but kids got sick with colds and we didn’t want them! Ray put up outside lights, Becky put up wreaths and poinsettia plants and small décor. Got new cool nativity. Lisa/Jim hosted our family Christmas party at their house in Layton, a lot of fun and good food with a visit from Santa. Jones family Christmas party hosted by Claudia/Scott in Bountiful. Very entertained by magician, Santa’s visit and basketball. Becky made fancy dark chocolate peppermint cookies with ganache filling. Never again! Took too much time and they turned out really big and very rich! Woke up to a very white Christmas with big snow storm, Ray used snowblower. Becky sang in church choir for Christmas program, great music. Ryan/Nat came over, glad to have some family. Becky needed an antibiotic, tried to avoid ER visit…nothing else available except on-call MD and Walgreens pharmacy. (Getting sick on a Sunday on Christmas during a snowstorm isn’t a good idea!) Becky’s sister Pam got breast cancer but hopes to beat it! Pray for her, please!
We hope to see you all at the family reunion for 2017 and that you stay healthy and happy this year.
Love,
Ray and Becky
